By adding iron powder to other materials you can give them some of iron's properties. Some examples:

• Iron powder added to products makes them visible to metal detectors

• Iron powder added to baffles, hearing protectors, etc. acts as a sound-absorption agent, because of its density

• Iron powder added to plastic can give it thermal- and electrical conductivity and soft magnetic properties.
