Origin of Bronze Pigments

Bronze powders are also called bronze flakes or bronze pigments and are issued from the milling process of the bronze granules.

Like the bronze granules, the colour obtained depends on the percentage of zinc added to the melt process. The colour obtained will be:
-> metallic red or copper (100% copper),
-> lighter metallic red or Pale Gold (90% copper - 10% zinc)
-> lighter metallic gold or Rich Pale Gold (80% copper - 20% zinc)
-> metallic gold or Rich Gold (70% copper - 30% zinc).

The metallic colour of Bronze Powders

The metallic colour obtained from the milling process gives a very brilliant, mirror-like effect to the powders and this mirror-like effect makes the bronze powders suitable for a wide range of applications ranging from paints, coatings, plastics, to printing inks and others.

Depending on the application, a smaller or finer particle size will be required.
Grades of coarse particle size are more brilliant than grades of fine particle size, while grades of fine particle size will have a higher coverage capacity in cm²/gram

Bronze pastes

All of the above can be ordered inthe following %age of powder/solvent forms:

  • Paste 85 - 15
  • Paste 80 - 20
  • Paste 70 - 30
  • Aquastab Paste (water-based system)

Solvents used

Solvent-used will dpend on the application. The main solvents are as follows:

ME :

paraffin oil (plastics)

HG :

hexylene glycol

WS :

white spirit

SE :

solvent naphtha

PM :

methoxypropanol

IPA :

isopropylacetate

EA :

ethylacetate

IS :

mineral oil (offset printing)

Aluminium Grades

Aluminium powders are available in the grades below and are either leafing or non-leafing grades.

Leafing

Leafing grades are used for applications requiring maximum metallic brilliance and reflection.

Non-leafing grades typically are to remain inside the film application and will provide a lower metallic brilliance and reflection.

All of the above can be ordered in the following % of powder/solvent forms:

  • Paste 80 - 20
  • Paste 70 - 30
  • Paste 65 - 35
  • Aquastab Paste (water-based system)
