<image:title>Thermal Spray Powders - Laser Cladding</image:title>
<image:caption>Laser cladding is a surface welding method that enables a metallurgical bonding with the base material substrate, like in case of PTA surface welding. The overlays can be applied to most Fe and Ni based substrates with some exceptions. A high energy laser beam creates an intense heat input and thus alloys are bonded to the surface with a low degree of dilution (<5%). Laser cladding can be fully automated and thus once the parameters are fixed for a certain design, consistent final results are achieved for all parts. There are a number of different powder options that Hoganas offer including: Nickel Based powders, Cobalt Based powders, Iron based powders, Carbies and blended powders.</image:caption>

<image:title>Thermal Spray Powders - Flame Spraying</image:title>
<image:caption>Flame spraying is a two-step method using so called self-fluxing powders. The powder is fed into the flame forming semi-molten particles and are accelerated towards the substrate surface. The particles form a mechanical bond which has to be fused in order to get a good bonding and a dense coating up to 99% density. For the fusing, a standard Oxy-Acetylene torch or induction can be used. Flame-spraying is ideal for coating cylindrical parts like bottle neck plungers and steel transport rollers. Deposition rates are from 1-9kg/hour.</image:caption>

<image:title>Thermal Spray Powders - Powder Welding</image:title>
<image:caption>Powder welding is a manual method using a standard oxy-acetylene torch. The self-fluxing powder is fed into the flame from an attached hopper. Typically, deposition rates from 0,5-2,5kg/hour are possible. Smooth and dense coatings are achieved. The process is particularly suitable for the surface coating of cast iron glass moulds and the repair of different machined parts.</image:caption>

<image:title>Thermal Spray Powders - PTA (Plasma Transferred Arc) Welding</image:title>
<image:caption>PTA (Plasma Transferred Arc) welding is a process which can be highly automated. It utilises a combined arc/plasma stream to form a limited melt on the work piece surface. A low base metal dilution with a small heat affected zone and a dense uniform coating is achieved. A wide range of user-specific consumables are possible. This process has found extensive use in high-volume automated applications such as the thermal surfacing of exhaust valves. Deposition rates up to 12 kg/ hour are possible, with surfacing thickness from 1– 6 mm.</image:caption>

<image:title>Thermal Spray Powders - Plasma and HVOF</image:title>
<image:caption>Plasma spraying employs a technique essentially similar to flame spraying. It differs in that the flame comprises an electrically excited plasma of high velocity and temperature (≈15,000°K), permitting a denser coating (95-98%). Deposition rates are from 2–8 kg/hour, and surfacing thickness ranges from 0.1–2.5 mm. HVOF (High-Velocity Oxy-Fuel) spraying combines velocities up to 700 m/s and higher with moderate temperatures. This process provides a very dense coating (> 97%). Deposition rates are up to 9 kg/hour, and coating thickness from 0.05–1 mm. There are a range of powder options including Co, Fe, Ni based powders plus carbides.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Nickel Flakes are bright, attractive particles ideally suited for applications such as decorative pigments in high performance paints and powder coatings. Nickel Flakes are available in leafing (L) and water (W) grade versions. Nickel’s pewter-like appearance and rich luster are unique among metallic pigments. Leafing pigments tend to concentrate near the surface of a paint film creating a metallic appearance. Water grade pigments are non-leafing in solvent systems and randomly disperse throughout the paint film. This product is available as standard nickel flakes, a nickel flake paste, or as an HCA-1 conductive flake.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Type 4SP nickel powder is a high purity spherical nickel powder that is ideal for making powder metal parts when high sintered density and controlled shrinkage are important. Four size ranges are available. Type 4SP-10 (-10 micron) powder is the preferred choice for the metal injection molding (MIM) industry. It mirrors the size and shape of the carbonyl iron powder used in MIM and therefore allows for uniform distribution throughout the alloy composition. Novamet also produces spherical powders SNP-20+10 (-20+10 micron), SNP+20 (+20 micron) and SNP-400 (-400 mesh) to give you a full range of particle sizes. <image:caption>Type 525 nickel powder is a high purity filamentary powder that has been screened to remove large or agglomerated particles. It is used in conductive coatings, adhesives and gaskets. Type 525 powder's excellent corrosion resistance, good conductive properties and unique filamentary shape make it very effective in radio frequency and electromagnetic shielding coatings. Small amounts added to coil coatings enhance weld ability. Two versions of Type 525 nickel powder are available. Conductive Nickel Spheres (CNS) were developed for use in conductive inks and pastes where their uniform size, smooth spherical shape and low surface area allow for maximum compaction of the nickel particles in the binder matrix. CNS can also be silver or gold plated. Up to 30% of CNS can be blended with pure silver without a significant loss of conductivity. The magnetic properties of nickel can be used to align the particles in unique patterns.</image:caption>

<image:title>Stainless Steel Powders/Flakes - Stainless Steel Powders</image:title>
<image:caption>As the distributor for Höganäs we are able to offer an impressive range of stainless steel powders. 316L: A pre-alloyed austenitic and non-magnetic grade, 316L is the most commonly used grade for P/M stainless steel parts. This is due to its superior corrosion resistance and physical properties. 316L is particularly resistant to attacks by solutions containing chloride ions. 410L: A pre-alloyed martensitic and ferro-magnetic grade, 410L is used for hard, wear-resistant P/M stainless steel parts. Hardness after sintering and cooling is high, and can be further augmented with the addition of specific proportions of carbon to the powder mixture. With graphite added to a level of C=0.3%, hardness after sintering and hardening from 1000°C can be increased to HRc32. 431 L: A pre-alloyed ferritic and ferro-magnetic grade, 430L is used for P/M stainless steel parts that require higher corrosion resistance than 410L can offer. It also offers excellent magnetic properties. This is available as a high carbon version.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Novamet Zinc Flake has a bright metallic appearance. A major application is in aerosols that are used to impart a galvanized steel look to metal substrates. Zinc Flake is an excellent alternative to aluminium in powder coatings. It is also useful in zinc rich protective coatings. Applications for zinc flake include alkaline batteries, fuel cells, zinc air batteries, feedstock for chemical reactions and friction compound additives.</image:caption>
