Nickel Powders, Flakes & Oxides

Our extensive Nickel range is supplied by Novamet Specialty Products. Novamet produces more than 60 different products including tightly sized nickel powder, metallic flake, coated materials and specialty nickel oxides.

Novamet specialises in small volumes and custom products. Using its screening and classification capabilities, the plant makes precision-engineered products to the most exacting specifications. The company also repackages Vale Inco nickel powders to both Novamet standard and customer-specific containers and weight requirements.

Below you’ll find information on five grades we regularly stock in Australia.

Nickel Powder Type 123

 ™

Vale Inco Type 123 ™ nickel powder is a spherical nickel powder produced to a controlled particle size and apparent density range. The combination of fine particle size, dendritic surface, high purity and unique shape have spurred a long list of applications including high purity magnetic alloys, silver-nickel electrical contacts, welding electrodes, anti-seize lubricants, friction components, nickel catalysts, roll compacted strip and organo-nickel compounds.

Conductive Nickel Powders

Type 525 nickel powder is a high purity filamentary powder that has been screened to remove large or agglomerated particles. It is used in conductive coatings, adhesives and gaskets. Type 525 powder's excellent corrosion resistance, good conductive properties and unique filamentary shape make it very effective in radio frequency and electromagnetic shielding coatings. Small amounts added to coil coatings enhance weld ability. Two versions of Type 525 nickel powder are available.

Conductive Nickel Spheres (CNS) were developed for use in conductive inks and pastes where their uniform size, smooth spherical shape and low surface area allow for maximum compaction of the nickel particles in the binder matrix. CNS can also be silver or gold plated. Up to 30% of CNS can be blended with pure silver without a significant loss of conductivity. The magnetic properties of nickel can be used to align the particles in unique patterns.

Spherical Nickel Powders

Type 4SP nickel powder is a high purity spherical nickel powder that is ideal for making powder metal parts when high sintered density and controlled shrinkage are important. Four size ranges are available.

Type 4SP-10 (-10 micron) powder is the preferred choice for the metal injection molding (MIM) industry. It mirrors the size and shape of the carbonyl iron powder used in MIM and therefore allows for uniform distribution throughout the alloy composition. Novamet also produces spherical powders SNP-20+10 (-20+10 micron), SNP+20 (+20 micron) and SNP-400 (-400 mesh) to give you a full range of particle sizes. Other fractions can be developed upon request.

Nickel Flakes

Nickel Flakes are bright, attractive particles ideally suited for applications such as decorative pigments in high performance paints and powder coatings. Nickel Flakes are available in leafing (L) and water (W) grade versions. Nickel’s pewter-like appearance and rich luster are unique among metallic pigments. Leafing pigments tend to concentrate near the surface of a paint film creating a metallic appearance. Water grade pigments are non-leafing in solvent systems and randomly disperse throughout the paint film.

This product is available as standard nickel flakes, a nickel flake paste, or as an HCA-1 conductive flake.

Nickel Oxides

Green Nickel Oxide is an ultra high purity nickel oxide containing 78.5% nickel with total trace elements typically less than 50 ppm. It is used in a variety of electronic applications including ferrites, thermistors, varistors and solid oxide fuel cells. Three versions are available, ranging in size from 1 to 15 microns.
